A MAJOR CHILDREN'S EVENT
Guild volunteers selling tickets for items to raise funds for QuiltQuest. On the right
are two wall hangings with autographs by professional golfers Hal Sutton and David Toms. On the table are items including autographs by quilting
celebrities Alex Anderson, Carol Doak, Nancy Zieman, and Kaye Wood. The guild’s donation quilt is in the background. |

A group of students enter the QuiltQuest area. Pieces of sandpaper are taped to the tables, and a square of
muslin is on top of each piece. The sandpaper keeps the fabric from sliding. Fabric markers are in the center of the tables, and boxes have more
markers. Once the children are assembled, teachers, teacher assistants, and Red River Revel volunteers will assist and encourage the children.
A quilt top hangs in the background. |

Guild volunteers at QuiltQuest are busy even between groups of children coming to draw their pictures onto muslin.
The quilters assemble tops and the children can watch them sew and ask questions. The sewing machines are set up facing outward, so the 4
th grade students can watch and ask questions. Senior high school students can be seen in the back, taking a short break before the next
group of students arrives. The senior high school students help with pressing the blocks, displaying the quilt tops, and assisting the students.

The tables where the guild members and student volunteers work are arranged in a square, with the irons at the back, out of reach by the younger children.

The hall is beginning to fill with students. In the orange T-shirt, co-chairman Cindy Williams watches the
students, and, in the pink T-shirt, a Red River Revel volunteer talks with Cindy. In the foreground, guild member Phyllis Phillips sews. Phyllis is
dedicated to QuiltQuest and has participated in every session. |

Quilters at work. In the background, students gather around a “design wall” and arrange quilt blocks.
As the quilters complete a top, it is hung on the wall for the children to see. They enjoy seeing them and choosing their favorite. QuiltQuest
begins the day following the close of our quilt show. The quilters will sew and interact with 7,500 fourth-grade students for five days. On the
sixth day, a different group of quilters will continue sewing on the festival grounds so the general public can watch the quilts being made. (On the
seventh day, everyone rests because they’re exhausted!) |

We wish to thank professional golfers Hal Sutton and David Toms for their continued support of QuiltQuest. With the autographs of these local celebrities, Red River Quilters made two wallhangings that were sold to raise money for QuiltQuest.
We also wish to thank Alex Anderson, Carol Doak, Kaye Wood and Nancy Zieman! These "Quilting Queens" supported QuiltQuest with their autographs on fabric, which were then incorporated into tote bags, tablerunner and a wallhanging that were sold to raise money for QuiltQuest. And thanks, Linda McGehee, for your help with this project.
